Workshop and tour

Workshop: “Tracing the patterns of decay as a possibility to flourish though mending” and EKKM house tour 2026

Marta Konovalov will lead a workshop stemming from her practice as a sustainable designer and gardener. Together, we’ll take the time to mend and repair textiles. The gathering focuses on activities that may not yield immediate, practical, or tangible results, but that contribute to the flourishing of the garden and the gardener, or the relationship between people and their objects. The workshop will take place in the EKKM community garden on September 13 at 14:00–16:00. Language skills are not a barrier to participation. Please bring any textile items that need mending to the workshop; all other supplies will be provided on site.

The workshop will be followed by a special tour on 13 September at 16:00, led by EKKM’s technical director, Johannes Luik. Similarly to the workshop, the tour will focus on repairs, highlighting the small and ingenious ways in which the museum building has been patched up over the years. Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia is located in a building of the former Tallinn thermal power plant complex, and the museum house has never been formally renovated. Over the past 20 years, artists associated with the museum and its staff have left traces of their care on the building, primarily through necessary and resourceful repair efforts carried out between exhibitions. The tour begins at 16:00, is free of charge, and will be conducted in either Estonian or English, depending on the group that will gather for the tour.
