Screening of the film “Karp” at Cinema Sõprus

Architect Raine Karp has designed some of the most monumental buildings in Estonia. The film gives voice to Raine’s mathematics of life and takes the viewer on a journey through the architect’s world of thought, space and creation.

Tallinn Linnahall, the National Library of Estonia, Postimaja and nearly three hundred other buildings – behind them all is one architect who does not consider himself an artist. Karp sees himself first and foremost as an engineer: he does not make art, he solves problems. He never founded an office and works alone.

Karp’s urban landmarks are also examined in the film by culture and architecture experts Karen Jagodin, Miia Masso, Mait Väljas and Tiit Nurklik. Alongside present-day footage of the spaces, the film also moves through the past, drawing on the archive filmed and photographed by the architect himself.

The film is directed by Keiti Väliste, with cinematography by Mattias Veermets, editing by Johanna Maria Vilgats, script editing by Kai Väärtnõu, sound design by Kauri Lemberg, music by Markus Robam, graphic design by Kaspar Sellin, produced by Johanna Maria Tamm (Paulson) and produced by Stellar Film.
