Late-night exhibition tour of EKKM’s jubilee exhibition “Why Do Your Shoes Rub and Other Questions”

On September 25, guided tours will take place at EKKM’s anniversary exhibition “Why Do Your Shoes Rub and Other Questions.” The exhibition “Why Do Your Shoes Rub and Other Questions” is being held in EKKM’s outdoor area, turning the museum inside out and celebrating its 20th anniversary. The museum is more than its building; it is growing out of it, flowing into the courtyard, the gardens and the street. The exhibition, which takes a look at both EKKM and its wider role as an art institution, is inspired by the image of a corn. An inconvenience that cannot be ignored, and which is at the same time a sign of the body’s defence mechanism, expressing resistance and care.

The exhibition celebrates the museum itself, but even more so all the artists, art workers, and the audiences who have been part of the ongoing creation of this place. The exhibition, which can be experienced around the clock, highlights the museum as a social sculpture – a temporary monument that captures the energy of 20 years of collaborations. As an ephemeral, regenerative, and changing form, much like EKKM itself, the exhibition is subject to seasonality and weather conditions, and practices a continuous state of persistence.

Since the outdoor exhibition allows visitors to explore it even at night, the darkness reveals entirely new views and perspectives of the exhibition. The tours are free of charge. Both the Estonian- and English-language tours begin at 21:00 at the exhibition wall text on the Culture Kilometer and last about 1 hour. The Estonian-language tour is led by Brigit Arop, and the English-language tour by Anita Kodanik.
